How is my pension calculated?

Your pension is based on how long you were an Active member of our Scheme and what you earned during this period. The calculation can be quite complex. See the Explore your benefits section for more information.

What is GMP?

If you were an Active member of our Scheme between 6 April 1978 and 5 April 1997, you and the Company paid National Insurance contributions at a reduced rate during this period.

As a result, the portion of your State Earnings Related Pension that would have accrued during this time instead forms part of your Scheme pension. This is known as your Guaranteed Minimum Pension (GMP).
